The House of Buccellati and Its Precious Bestiary
The House of Buccellati has distinguished itself not only through its jewelry craftsmanship but also—and above all—through its exceptional expertise in silversmithing. The pieces presented here are representative of a favorite theme that has accompanied the house since its inception: inspiration drawn from the animal and plant worlds.
Throughout the entire output of the Buccellati workshops, this influence plays an essential role, both in the work of Mario Buccellati and that of his son, Gianmaria. The tableware pieces from the “Furry” collection, still available today in the brand’s boutiques, reflect this fascination with the natural world. They feature a diverse array of animals, including birds of all kinds, forest creatures—such as the fox, squirrels, deer, and wild boars—as well as more exotic species, such as pandas, monkeys, giraffes, and various felines.
These impressive sculptures, ranging in height from a few centimeters to nearly 70 cm, are distinguished by meticulous work involving the layering of silver wires. This technique allows the artist to reproduce the appearance of fur with great precision, giving the animals a look that is at once naturalistic, realistic, and particularly lifelike.
