HAROLDO BURLE MARX - 1970s - Lot 74
HAROLDO BURLE MARX - 1970s
TOURMALINE AND GOLD RING
It is set with a free-form cut green tourmaline in a domed setting of satin-finished 18K yellow gold. Signed Burle Marx.
Weight: 10.99 g. - Size: 51.
A leading figure in Brazilian jewelry design, Haroldo Burle Marx trained in gem cutting and gemology in Germany before beginning to create his own jewelry in the late 1940s. He opened his boutique in Copacabana in 1954.
Close to the artistic world of his brother Roberto, a famous landscape painter, Haroldo developed a style inspired by organic forms and movement. His jewelry thus combines stones with free-form contours with gold that is often textured, amati-finished, or satin-finished. Some of these forms, known as “Forma Livra,” were directly inspired by or designed in collaboration with Roberto, making their creations a unique dialogue between jewelry, nature, and landscape.
