MARINE HALNA DU FRETAY (BORN 1963 IN BORDEAUX) Carapace I, 2023 Stoneware, white clay H: 40 x W: 42 cm Plinth Marine Halna du Fretay has been studying ceramics since 2019 at the Académie d'Art d'Uccle, with Sofi Van Saltbommel and Maëlle Dufour. The sea is a cornerstone of her work as a ceramist: the ocean, foam and granite nourish her work. "The preservation of the oceans is a priority that I convey through my sculptures and installations. I glean the wastes of seafarers, worn away by the tides, and then print them on clay. The result is a sculpture in which materials amalgamate, intermingle and add up; the earth thus shaped is either raw, bisque or fired at high temperature, then with an accumulation of glazes or simply bare earth."
