MARINE HALNA DU FRETAY (BORN 1963 IN BORDEAUX) Petrified algae, 2024 Part of the installation "les reliefs du Boelhen", Galerie 15 Darwin, February 2025 Sandstone, black earth H: 29 x W: 50 cm On an antique base Marine Halna du Fretay has been studying ceramics since 2019 at the Académie d'Art d'Uccle, with Sofi Van Saltbommel and Maëlle Dufour. The sea is a cornerstone of her work as a ceramist: the ocean, foam and granite nourish her work. "The preservation of the oceans is a priority that I convey through my sculptures and installations. I glean the wastes of seafarers, worn away by the tides, and then print them on clay. The result is a sculpture in which materials amalgamate, intermingle and add up; the earth thus shaped is either raw, bisque or fired at high temperature, then with an accumulation of glazes or simply bare earth."
