GRÉGORY GEORGESCU - Lot 32
GRÉGORY GEORGESCU
Ghost
Glazed stoneware
H: 29 cm
Born in Brussels to parents of Romanian origin. His childhood, cradled by the antiques collected by his father and the toys and video games of the 1980s, nurtured a particular sensitivity to objects, their presence and their evocative power. As a reserved child, he already developed an intimate bond with these inanimate presences, as if they formed a silent constellation of friends.
Trained in styling, engraving, silk-screening and jewellery-making, his first foray into three-dimensionality was through the sculpture of wax jewelry prototypes, in a meticulous, almost microscopic relationship with the material. The discovery of ceramics marked a turning point: a change of scale and the opening up to an infinite field of textures, transformations and colors.
In his work, the metamorphosis of clay into precious, glittering objects is an alchemical act. The force exerted on the material during modelling contrasts with the unpredictability of the enamelling gesture. Between control and abandonment, love and violence, he weaves an ambivalent relationship with matter: building, scratching, soiling, overloading - all gestures that translate a tension between desire for beauty and outlet for frustration.
Her sculptures, often adorned with precious stones or shiny elements, oscillate between child's toy and mysterious fetish. They evoke the tradition of the charming object, while allowing an initially floral or naive intention to dissolve in the process into something more troubled and instinctive.
