AUDREY WERTHLE (BORN 1991 IN LYON) Chimera Glazed stoneware, colombin technique H: 30 x W: 40 cm Called by the material from an early age, she chose to make it her profession. A 2016 graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven, she moved to Brussels to co-found the La Gadoue studio with Eloïse Maës, where she continues to experiment in the fields of ceramics and textiles. Her practice oscillates between art, design and craft. Fascinated by the ancestral technique of colombin, she embarks on the creation of larger and larger pieces. The process of repetition and variation is what captivates her in this practice, which she hijacks, deliberately leaving this stratum apparent and not seeking to erase it through modeling, as is customary. This work plunges her into a meditative state where her hands are both tool and thought.
