CAROLINE PHOLIEN (BORN 1973 IN LIÈGE) Flowering thoughts, 2023 Glazed soft stoneware H: 29 cm (without lampshade) Ceramic artist Caroline Pholien has lived and worked in Seraing since 2002. Initially trained in sculpture at ENSAV La Cambre (Brussels), she also studied at the École d'Avignon (France). Her work draws on the world of nature, ancient bestiaries and folklore. Her vases, candlesticks and murals combine animals, vegetation and mythical motifs - exploring the boundaries between memory, the imaginary and the everyday. Caroline Pholien's pieces are characterized by strong visual emotion: organic forms, spontaneous gestures, raw or lightly glazed clay. Her approach echoes the restoration of pictorial heritage to which she first devoted herself, combining craftsman's gestures with poetic presence. She has presented her work at the Magmatic gallery (Brussels), where she explored the "Tarot" series, and participated in the Biennale de la Céramique in France.
