ATELIER D’OTTO BOLLHAGEN (1861-1924) - Lot 247
ATELIER D’OTTO BOLLHAGEN (1861-1924) View of Prague and the "Kaiser Wilhem II" ship Oil on canvas Signed lower right H: 97 cm L: 196 cm This tabelau served as an advertisement for the Norddeutsscher Lloyd shipping company. The Kaiser Wilhem II, a German transatlantic steam liner, was completed in the spring of 1903 at the shipyards in Stettin, Germany. She serves the Norddeutscher Lloyd company alongside her three sister ships, and for a time holds the Blue Ribbon. Her career remained relatively uneventful until the outbreak of the First World War: when the conflict broke out, the ship was on neutral ground in New York. She remained there until 1917, when the United States entered the war. She was then requisitioned and renamed Agammemnon.
