Anglada, d'après Jacques Louis David (1748-1825) - Lot 122
Anglada, d'après Jacques Louis David (1748-1825) Anglada, after Jacques Louis David (1748-1825) Portrait of Pierre Sérizat (1757 - 1847) David's brother-in-law Oil on canvas Signed lower left H: 129 x L: 95 cm Provenance: commissioned in 1911 by a governor of the Bank of England in Antwerp Portrait of Pierre Sériziat (1757-1847) by Anglada, after the painting by Jacques-Louis David (1748-1852). Trained at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, David is considered the leader of the neo-classical movement. He became a deputy of the Convention and organizer of revolutionary festivals. After his imprisonment for supporting Robespierre's cause, David, once released, was allowed to stay with his brother-in-law, the lawyer Pierre Sériziat. It was there that he made the portraits of the Sériziat spouses, exhibited at the 1795 Salon de Peinture and now both in the Louvre Museum. texte à venir
