About the auction

Antenor Auction is pleased to sell the contents of their Brussels home, a former outbuilding of the Abbaye de la Cambre forming three buildings around a garden.

More than 800 lots collected by Christophe Decarpentrie and Abel Naessens over 40 years, inspired by decors from all over the world, expressing an extraordinary personality forged by music, cinema, and above all travel, will be dispersed in situ on the 11th and 12 of December 2022

They have thought of their decoration as one finds them in the Mediterranean countryside, both in Italy and in Spain. Luxurious and simple at the same time.

When placing their furniture and works of art, they were constantly thinking of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. Their living room could be Count Almaviva’s.

"The decorator must be able to grasp a magic wand that at a stroke makes what is not look perfect and charming.”

"In this world, everything changes...
I turn with the planet, always in the happiness of creating beauty, which I will continue to the end with the help of my friend Abel."

Express Bio

Born into a family of Antwerp shipowners and merchants, Christophe Decarpentrie studied fashion and costume at the Antwerp Academy and met Abel Naessens, his companion and closest collaborator, before studying stage design and theatre section at the Arts Décoratifs de Paris. In the 1960s, he travelled through India and Nepal, where he met Mick Jagger and the Beatles. Back in Europe, he made his first theatrical costumes in the Netherlands and England, and then turned to decoration. In the 1970s, he moved to New York with Abel Naessens, who had become an interior designer, where he designed flats.
In 2000, Georges De Jonckheere, an influential member of the French Antique Dealers’ Union, asked him to create the Biennale at the Carrousel du Louvre.
He decided to take the public underground in an ancient white Roman city, the Lutetia of the past. A city full of light with Triumphal Arches and a white Forum. The result will be amazing.

Christophe and Abel will do many private houses all over the world, mixing the pleasure of creation with meeting people. They make big houses and castles habitable for our century and very comfortable. They are fortunate to have found remarkable collaborators who complement them with their rigour. Today they share their lives between Taroudan and Brussels.
